Ottawa Comiccon 2013

It’s been over a week since Ottawa Comiccon 2013 and although I’m a little late with this post… it was a blast! I’m new to cosplaying, but I have to say that going in a costume was a very different experience compared to last year. The atmosphere was a lot more exciting and inviting, and I felt like I was more representative of the nerd community by showing up as a character. My friends and I went as Batman characters, and the whole day we were either giving compliments or receiving compliments from other cosplayers.

It was great to see all of the fantastic costumes that were present at the event. It really showed just how much effort and detail people put into their cosplays, with some people remaining in character the whole time while walking about and posing for pictures. Unfortunately I wasn’t as dedicated about remaining in character – to be honest, I was a little overwhelmed with just how much attention we were getting. Just wait, next year I’ll be more experienced and ready to go 100%.

I don’t know why I was so worried in my earlier post; the costume held up wonderfully! The red wig, makeup and green corset all came together like I imagined it would. I think it could be a costume for much more popular Comic Cons. Speaking of which, pictures of me are now all over the internet! Photos of me as Poison Ivy are popping up on blogs, instagram and photographer’s facebook albums.

Julia was cosplaying as one of her favorite character, Harley Quinn. She was always ready to jump into character to cause some trouble and photobomb other pictures. This photo was taken while we were walking; I’m mid-step (Batgirl is still behind me) and yet Julia is ready with a loony smile.

My favorite moment was posing with this little Poison Ivy. Her mother wanted a picture of us together.

We also made it into pictures by Jim Woolley (Just Push Play) and Happy Robot (J.M. Douville). As well, us Gotham City ladies also made it into the blog The Wild Works Station.

Isn’t this crazy? I also found a picture of us on instagram, which was posted by someone with the handle @atlzoid. I actually commented on the picture and we had a bit of a conversation about Comiccon.
