Relief

If you’re interested in my kneecap dislocation story, you can find my other posts here.
Slowly I’m building back trust in my knee again.
The MRI results were perfect. No loose pieces of cartilage, no meniscus tears and no ACL damage. The ligaments holding my kneecap in place have all been stretched out, but that’s to be expected after a full dislocation. Increasing my muscle strength will help compensate for this, along with wearing a brace during high impact activities. My orthopedic surgeon was happy with my recovery and I was discharged from his care.
These really are the best results I could have hoped for. No surgery, no lengthy recovery, no further delay to my thesis, and no need for an expensive, customized knee brace.
Things are looking up for the start of 2016!

  1. Hi Laura, so sorry you've had this injury too! Don't worry about not being able to walk yet without support, I believe I was using my crutches for two months or more. Best advice is to be easy on yourself. It seems like an easy recovery, but your body is going through so much swelling and muscle repair.

It's been two years since my first dislocation and I haven't dislocated since! I can run again and have no problems walking/standing all day at work. I'm just very careful and wear my knee brace if I'm doing any intense sports.

  2. I've just came across your blog after searching online. I dislocated my knee 6 weeks ago and still can't walk without support. I was wondering if you suffered anymore dislocations after your first? Hope you are well

  3. Thanks for your comment! 🙂 I'm glad this post could help someone else.

Keep at it! It's a long and frustrating recovery, but I promise you'll get back to all your old activities.

  4. Thank you for sharing your story!

I recently suffered a dislocation from an incident with a personal trainer – it's been nearly 8 weeks on crutches and 6 weeks of PT. Patience and anxiety is difficult to deal with, especially when you want to get back to activity.

Glad to see your recovery has gone so well – you're giving me hope!
